The Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Faculty Contributor, one of SDSU’s most prestigious faculty awards, is presented annually to one faculty member from each of the university’s seven academic colleges. Sundaramurthy will be honored during the 2021 award ceremony which will be held during SDSU’s All-University Convocation on August 19, 2021.

Sundaramurthy, who serves as the chair of the management department at the Fowler College of Business, was nominated for the award for her “impactful and sustained efforts in research, teaching and service.” Her research has been published in about 30 different academic journals and she has been recognized as a leading scholar in the areas of corporate governance and family business. In addition, she has served on numerous committees, has been deeply involved in curriculum development, and has been awarded the Fowler Teaching Excellence Award in 2017.

"Dr. Sundaramurthy is a tremendous advocate for the students and faculty of the management department and the Fowler College of Business,” said Bruce Reinig, the Thomas and Evelyn Page Dean (interim) of SDSU’s Fowler College of Business. “She has exemplified the teacher-scholar model during her career at SDSU, having published in the leading management journals and earning a reputation as an outstanding educator at the same time. She has introduced several curriculum innovations including the bold initiative to require internships for all management majors. She has expanded the management advisory board to strengthen ties with industry. She is very deserving of this reward and I congratulate her on all her accomplishments.”

Sundaramurthy earned her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and earned her Bachelor of Law degree at the University of Madras.
