Chee Chow, Ph.D.
Emeritus Professor, Accountancy
Professor Chee W. Chow is the holder of an A.B. degree (with honors)
from Dartmouth College, an MBA degree from the Amos Tuck School
at Dartmouth, an M.S. from the Graduate School of Management of
the University of Rochester, and a Ph.D. from the University of
Oregon. He has held the Vern Odmark Professorship of Accountancy
at San Diego State University since 1984. Prior to that, Professor
Chow taught at the University of Washington and the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also has served as visiting professor
at the University of California at San Diego, the University of
Hawaii, the University of Sydney, Chinese University of Hong Kong,
and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Professor Chows primary teaching interests are in the management
accounting area. In recent years, he has taught management accounting
at the MBA level, as well as offered a management accounting seminar
for MS students majoring in accounting. On the research dimension,
his activities have spanned many areas of accounting, including
auditing, financial accounting, accounting education, taxation,
and management accounting and controls. Winner of numerous awards
for his writing, he has published well over one hundred articles
in leading academic and practitioner journals, and made a like number
of presentations at universities and conferences worldwide. In addition,
he has authored or co-authored more than 60 articles in Chinese
to enhance accounting education and research in Greater China. Over
the years, Professor Chow has served as reviewer or on the editorial
boards of 17 journals, including all of the top journals in accounting.
He currently serves on the editorial review boards of ten scholarly
In addition to being an active accounting researcher, Professor
Chow has actively contributed to the leadership and governance of
the College of Business, the School of Accountancy, and professional
organizations. He has served on the council and numerous committees
of the American Accounting Association and its sections. In 2000-2001,
Professor Chow served as President of the American Accounting Associations
Management Accounting Section, which provides leadership in the
advancement of management accounting research, practice, and education.
